Here's a quick one. I recently had to burn some .avi's onto a DVD-RW. Now, when I pop this burned disc into my laptop DVD+RW drive, nothing on the disc reads (it's as if there is no disc even recognized) but when I pop it into my desktop, it reads the disc fine. Now, it is a DVD-RW (-) as opposed to...

A related, similar question I have is how to unistall old versions of Tweak UI for windows (i.e., the icon in control panel) after you have installed the new 'power toys' version for XP. I don't simply want to remove the icon from the CP, but rather unistall the old files.

*caveat* I did not do a search on this topic, so I apologize if this has been already covered in depth. With regard to themes for Windows XP; I have noted that in some cases, all theme files need to be in the same folder, while in others, only the theme file itself needs to be in the main Plus folde...

Just figured it out. Has to do with read-write privilege settings in your local settings under given user. Wonder how in the hell that got changed to read-only. CC cleaner may have tweeked it, but this problem (in outlook) is not spyware related unless that s-ware changed the read-write settings. Ju...

I apologize for looking like a newbie posting for quick fix answers. I just didn't want to take the time to run a Hijack b/c I just wanted to see if others had any similar problems (if the problem was ubiquitous). I figured out the one just by toying around and running spybot, manually deleting. I k...

Before I ask for help, I wanted to extend a Happy New Year to all the board members et al. It's been great going through some of the stuff here, really some in depth and mind-blowing knowledge. My questions are rather simple I hope. I was home for the holidays (using someone's unsecured wireless net...

ATNO/TW, just noticed you are from the Burghtown...awesome, lots of family up there. My home of sorts. Not sure if you are into the Pens, but they are going to look sharp. Anyway, in addition to further commentary you might be able to provide on the current issue, I was hoping someone might be able ...

So I rebooted eventually and still the default view (for PPT) in the open file dialog box is preview. Obviously I can change that to details, but I am curious as to why it happens only in PPT and only when I open a file from within. For example, if I am just exploring my C folders, the default view ...

Any further ideas on this? It seems as if I get the preview when trying to open a file only in PowerPoint.
Any thoughts?

Hmmmmmm,
even after I made that change, it seems in Powerpoint, it always gives me the preview view when I attempt to look in a give folder to open a file.......any ideas?
I closed out of PPT and re-opened but still the same. The change you suggested did work for folders in general.

Board members, forgive me if this has been addressed elsewhere on the forum---I have had very little time to do any searches here or anywhere. My question is quite short and simple. Every time I open a file from within an MS OFFICE program, the dialog box is in the form of "preview"--that is, file n...

Labrego, This took care of business, I can't thank you enough; I got a few general questions as I am always trying to acquire new knowledge about all aspects of XP based systems and vulnerabilities. 1) After I got rid of the programs that loaded on startup by editing the registry, did these .com fil...

ATNO/TW, Thanks man, I did check that, but no dice; .exe is in there.....I'm open to anything and everything. As mentioned here and on other boards, the symptom is as follows: when I type "regedit" in the run dialog box, I get the quick popup and nothing more. However, if I type "regedit.exe" the ed...
