Is there a way to overlap elements using CSS?

Post Posted: April 2nd, 2004, 9:55 pm

Hey Plutunium, your school is Oak Ridge? Mine too. It is a fairly new building, and called Oak Ridge. How strange.

Musik/Rose, is that you in that avatar pic because she's very HOT!

Ok, if it goes how I'm thinking, I'll have a site. One version is a flash version with moving, sound, and zoom zoom zoom. The other will just be static HTML site (with PHP of course). But, to keep the information consistent between the flash version and HTML version, I would need to use a database. ...

Post Posted: February 21st, 2004, 3:08 pm

Dude, the logo kicks ass.

Post Posted: February 18th, 2004, 5:02 pm

Ok, this next question is more aimed at Unflux since I've seen him do it, if I wanted to make a flash and just...a static site (yet dynamic) and have the information stay constant through both pages, would using a database be most effecient?

Post Posted: February 17th, 2004, 10:06 pm

Would you be able to make a dynamic flash site? Like, login, then be able to edit stuff online, like with say..php? Or does every update have to be done by opening the page up in flash, typing it in, and reloading it?

Why are iframes frowned upon so much?

Post Posted: February 6th, 2004, 3:04 pm

Everything in that link you gave me (Safari) looks EXACTLY as I intended it to. It's just Mac IE. But I check today at school what version they used and it was IE5 and it looks so screwed up!! But according to the other link, it should show the same!

Post Posted: February 5th, 2004, 5:43 pm

Wow, great link, now if there was only something like that for the IE!

Post Posted: February 5th, 2004, 5:16 pm

According to that chart, my site should look exactly as it does on my windows browser but what happens is: the content spans like twice the size of the screen width and the right column disappears and I'm not sure if the bottom footer is even visible. Any ideas why this would be happening?

Post Posted: February 5th, 2004, 2:30 pm

What are the differences in the same browser, in this case, Internet Explorer, on Windows and then Macs? My site now works with every browser on my computer (I resorted to tables for the content) but when I use the same browser on a Mac, again IE, it looks very different...in other words...HORRID. I...

How much money can you get from hosting ads on your site? I'm wondering if I put ads on my site, whether or not I'll get enough money to pay off like my site bills?

Post Posted: February 3rd, 2004, 7:11 pm

http://www.maxedge.net/maxtest.html

The column, does anyone have an elegant way to just span the rest of the height of the screen? With the way I have it set, it is so obnoxiously long even if there's nothing there! Thanks in advance.

Post Posted: February 3rd, 2004, 7:09 pm

I mean something like hotbot.com. If the user is browsing with netscape 4.x, then I'd send it to a page saying something like, "Sorry, this site cannot be viewed with this browser, Netscape 4.x. Please comeback with an upgraded version or a different browser." Something like that. I just want it to ...

Post Posted: February 3rd, 2004, 5:35 pm

Well currently, I'm linking it through to the page it's being used by via <link>. But, I think I have a solution. What if I make the page php, and echo everything through to make it look just like a css declaration in a regular page? Will linking this file compared to linking just a css file h...

Can you use php in css? Like for seasons, I'm thinking of being able to change the colors with one variable. So can you?

Post Posted: February 3rd, 2004, 5:11 pm

How would you make the site look for netscape 4.x and if someone is browsing with that browser, direct them to a special page? I validated my source and css and everything checks out so that's not the problem when displayed with netscape 4.x.

Post Posted: February 3rd, 2004, 5:03 pm

What do you have to even show up on that?

Post Posted: February 2nd, 2004, 9:07 pm

Why would you want to cloack .php to .html anyway?

Post Posted: February 2nd, 2004, 7:03 pm

I'm assuming that you are refering to the scrollbar colors? The short answer is because your Doctype Declaration (DTD) is correct. Yes, I did say that the way I intended to your DTD is CORRECT. That's what's causing the colored scrollbars not to work. What you currently have as your DTD is what the...

Thanks, that is one question solved, although the CSS thread really wasn't talking about that. I mean like in maxedge.net/maxtest.html, my div bars are a lot longer than their actual content. Why is this?

Post Posted: February 2nd, 2004, 8:09 am

Does anyone know why my css declarations are not working?

here's a link. (For the source, right click -> View Source)

I've tried validating my css and the only problem the validator has a problem with is the scrollbar. I've checked to see if it was all right and everything seems to be in order. This is the buggy part: [code] BODY { margin: 0; cursor: default; /*FROM HERE*/ scrollbar-face-color: #33...

Ok, for like my main page, I'm thinking of putting the content stuff in just regular html files and including them. I don't want to put them into MySQL because I don't want to clutter it up with other stuff when phpBB already uses it. Does doing it this way have any speed or security implications wh...

Is there something out there that I could just print out and read in my spare time say, like during school?

Post Posted: January 26th, 2004, 9:14 pm

If you mean use css by using divs, I already tried that and I've had a hell of a time trying to make that work. Was there another way you had in mind?

Post Posted: January 26th, 2004, 7:53 pm

Alright I followed your instructions. But the problem with the top bar still exists. It's just too big. I don't have any properties defined for it concerning height other than the cellpadding and I've fiddled with that already and that's not the problem.

Post Posted: January 26th, 2004, 6:38 pm

Allright, now the problem is, in IE, the TOP bar is too big heightwise. I have no definition other than 2% which should be smalle than the bar content so it wraps. But it's still way big! Now what's the problem?

Post Posted: January 26th, 2004, 3:22 pm

http://www.maxedge.net Below the logo, there is supposed to be another bar with links. In Mozilla Firebird, it shows fine but in the horrid Internet Explorer, it doesn't show. I've reviewed my code and I can't find the flaw in it. Maybe the problem is in some other browsers but I'm pretty sure that ...

Sorry, I'm a programmer and I'm not seeing anything. What kind of code do you guys write? Also, the content looks just too plain. Too much text. No pictures at all! The clock thing is also very annoying to me. I'd go for a redesign and add some meat to the site.

Post Posted: January 25th, 2004, 11:32 am

Well, my speakers are fine. When I listen to regular music it's fine also but yours seems kinda loud.

Post Posted: January 25th, 2004, 10:54 am

Ok, just to let you know, that new music thingy is in my opinion too obnoxious. It's way too loud. If it was a lot softer than I think I could enjoy it.

No problem. Glad I could help.

Apache allows you to have your own box connect to the wide web. It like organizes all the jumble you need for connection. There's a certain file that you set Apache to set as a home directory. From there, for instance, lets' say you put an image in a folder, and you go to that folder with an interne...

How about these? I made the little the symbol resemble more of an M since you guys were like "What!? What is that supposed to be?" and I got rid of the little phrase. How are they now? I think they look a little plain but I'm not very professional so... Also, it's the first time I've ever used a pen...

Post Posted: January 23rd, 2004, 9:55 pm

Nah, that's just what I need. I'm trying to make a symbol for maxedge. It's just gonna be a personal site. Like the dragon at ozzu, I'm trying to make a certain symbol for maxedge. I'll get rid of the little phrase on the bottom. I'll just try to come up with a bluish thingy.

Huh? If you can't do php, how can you do forms?

Post Posted: January 15th, 2004, 6:20 pm

In a flash application, can you stilll apply forms, etc. with PHP? Can you apply phpBB (I'm assuming you can if they former is true). Can you add just regular html? Or is using flash limited to just using the tools in flash?

I'm using EditPlus. Not a WYSIWYG editor. Also, the form is not displaying on the left gray area. Is there another table in the middle on the left side? Thinks: Ohhh, I get what you're saying. I didn't know it was in the same table. Well..I moved it to that spot because on the td after I close that ...

Thanks DigitalMedia. It turned out that I needed to change it completely for it to work. Thanks anyway. Now, the only problem is, the right-border: is not working. The left one is, but the right one isn't. Anyone know why? [code] <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional/...

Post Posted: January 11th, 2004, 8:20 pm

Allright fixed that too. The only problem I'm having is that the borders for the grey tables won't work. I have no idea why it's not working. And why do the gradients up top on the header not show on Internet Explorer!!??

Post Posted: January 11th, 2004, 8:07 pm

Does it now? I flipped the trademarks to be on top and it looks less..bloated. I had the same thought as you did on that.

Post Posted: January 11th, 2004, 7:30 pm

well i fixed the logo. the boring-ness of the site will be fixed later. I'm just trying to get a basic template so I can start doing everything. The php, etc.

About your forums, in the main index, you should change the links in the categories. You can't see them.

Post Posted: January 11th, 2004, 11:56 am

So they have a file called that and run it. Then delete all that's in there. And if you need to create say new tables, then you add the wanted tables and delete them, etc.? Would that be a good choice of actioin to use?

Post Posted: January 11th, 2004, 11:36 am

What would be the best way to create a table for mysql? Would you use

Code: [ Select ]
if (IsSet(table1)) {
create table1 (Id blah, blah, blah);
}
  1. if (IsSet(table1)) {
  2. create table1 (Id blah, blah, blah);
  3. }

or would you just run a script like that once and then just delete it?

Post Posted: January 9th, 2004, 6:59 pm

Dude, you're site is the bomb. As someone previously mentioned, the top is kinda big but it seems to fit in with the site. The logo is cool and the color scheme belnds in to itself very nicely. I really can't say anything bad about the site because it's really nice. Keep up the good work!

Post Posted: January 9th, 2004, 6:57 pm

The site looks very crisp and clean. The only thing that bugs me is the header. It's kinda big. Other than that, the only thig that seems to be lacking is the content but I'm sure you'll get that up as time passes.

Post Posted: January 9th, 2004, 2:23 pm

The only thing that bugs me is that on the top, where the navigation and options are located, they are kinda disgruntled because of the metal-rust effect that's there. I think you should tone it down a little on the side and maybe move that to the left of it a little bit so visibility is better?
