ok what i did was for it to look for 'file'.date(md)'.zip'.

just to test i put a -1 after date() and it showed the faux database error but if it's correct all i end up with is a blank page which is odd.

Have you considered sending a key to the other server in the background (server to server communication), as well as sending the key in the visitors redirected URL ? When they get to the other server, give them the file, then invalidate that key so it can't be used again, that way nobody will ever ...
