I would say that:

Get High PR links from other relevant sites as much as you can.

Do the above steps 5 times. :)

You will get the PR.

If you think you can then it is worth doing.

Even that smaller share can get you loads of traffic.

I would say for Yahoo - The Onpage optimization counts more.

While in google other factors have more weight.

Humm..... I had a small guide written by an old internet user. The title was yahoo in my pocket. He gave it away to me for free and in past 2 years whenever I have used it's mentioned things I have always been on the top positions in the yahoo search engine.

Will directory links do. I have some directories which are PR 5 and I can give you a homepage link as a featured link on that directories.
