ever since one of my two HD's crashed (which is now disconnected), my computer's been rather slower than usual... it was quite fast before the problem with the HD. the HD remaining was the original, faster one, and all seemed OK until i physically disconnected it and reconnected from the IBE cable, ...

alrighty now... what i did is i changed my CD-RW to a slave. I also left the DVD-rom unchanged. Now, my computer starts up fine- it recognizes the new HD as drive H: BUT... the DVD-rom is not being recognized- it's not even on the list of drives with removable media. Now, I am out of ideas. I really...

Alright now. here is the complete setup- i have my case open and i'm looking right at it- these are the jumper cable settings: my Master HD: master or stand alone old HD: slave DVD rom: no jumper cable- and i don't know what that means. CD-RW: I don't exactly understand, but this is how it is C S M ...

i know what you mean about playing with it- and i'm not sure trial and error is an effective way... :) but the thing is, when it worked, the drive letters didn't change like you described they did; the new slave drive became H:, and the DVD and CD-RW stayed like they were. does that draw somewhat of...

by the way, what do you mean by going past POST? The initial screen where it tells the year, RAM, and all that stuff comes up, but after that the screen turns black and i get that ***t-error.

sorry- i'm not familiar with the lingo!

Post Posted: January 17th, 2004, 5:58 pm

yeah that's right. the CD-RW and DVD rom are on the secondary IDE cable. as for the HDs, i put the new one as a slave. I didn't change anything on the master- it doesn't have one of those jumper switches. However, like i said- the confusing thing is that it worked for while, but when i restarted the...

Hello again. I managed to install my old-already-used HD as a slave and that worked fine the first time. I browsed through it with no problems. when i shut the computer down to close the case and make sure the HD doesn't flop around in there, i changed nothing of the setup. HOwever, when i restarted...

sorry bout this--- i'm still having problems. I already have a DVD rom and CD-RW on my secondary IDE cable, so i installed the already used HD, as a slave, on the primary one. however, when i start the computer, windows runs fine, but there's no record of the HD i installed. tips and comment will be...
