cheers for that... I started the computer in safe mode, but instead of downloading a new driver i just used system restore to restore windows to a state before the problem occured.

thanks for that: but the problem is that the computer is actually on: i can hear all the programmes functioning properly. I would do what thte link said: but i can't actually see! the monitor goes onto orange light mode, not green (which means it is completely on). the monitor is an IBM T541 if that...

hi there... i got an IBM TFT monitor, which was working fine and still is. But now my computer decided it doesn't like the monitor, so no picture comes up! i mean when i switch on my computer, it's ok- the windows xp loading screen appears etc... but as soon as it goes into windows, the screen goes ...

ever since one of my two HD's crashed (which is now disconnected), my computer's been rather slower than usual... it was quite fast before the problem with the HD. the HD remaining was the original, faster one, and all seemed OK until i physically disconnected it and reconnected from the IBE cable, ...

i'm as lost as you are- all i know it's some form of virus which installs unwanted progammes and downloads unwanted files. that's about all i know- i just thought it might have been a famous one.

alrighty now... what i did is i changed my CD-RW to a slave. I also left the DVD-rom unchanged. Now, my computer starts up fine- it recognizes the new HD as drive H: BUT... the DVD-rom is not being recognized- it's not even on the list of drives with removable media. Now, I am out of ideas. Alright now. here is the complete setup- i have my case open and i'm looking right at it- these are the jumper cable settings: my Master HD: master or stand alone old HD: slave DVD rom: no jumper cable- and i don't know what that means.
