It's neither positive nor negative as long as you used a permanent redirect.

I was AIMing with a friend and had a Google search return I wanted to share with her. I told her the search phrase and told her to "check out the second link." But her second link was different than mine. At first I thought maybe it was because she was in a different geographical region (o...

No problem, I understand, I should have been clearer... Anchor text is the phrase that you use when linking your site. See the difference in your signature and mine on this board? Your link is a straight url, but mine is readable words that link to my site. There is a difference in how these two lin...

Err, he was giving you advice. you would have been better off to split the terms sea and witch He's saying that the more often you split the two words (especially when using them as anchor text for your link, which he didn't add, but should have ;) ) the better the chance of you ranking in google wh...

He means the next time you search google for your keyword, his post will rank higher than your post, or even your own site, because Ozzu's pretty SEO solid and ranks very high in the SERPs. I get Ozzu results for my site on the second page of a Google search, and the thread is about 2 years old and ...

Well, I think that most buy domains to have an identity and something that they are in control of and something that is easy to remember. But I'm in it for the sake of the site, not for the AdSense. That said, blogs are great for keeping up with friends and ranting, but they are not a website, they ...

They offer 50 seperate 100MB databases (of which I've only used 3 different ones), but I don't see an option to "raid" the rest of them, which would be ideal as I love the host I'm with and don't want to leave (I've been with them since 2003). And I don't see an option in the wikimedia sof...

I recently set up a wiki site on the server I rent and used one of the MySQL databases that my hosting company provides. But my hosting company tops out the databases at 100MB and the wiki site is growing faster than I expected. Before it grows beyond what I could realistically reinput, if needed, w...

Two or three months ago I added an XML/RSS feed to the site for our podcasts and submitted it to a number of podcast directories. The .xml file now gets half the hits our homepage does. But I've noticed since that my site has slowly started falling on google searches. Words we used to be #1 or #2 fo...

When used properly MySpace is an amazing networking site, and I don't mean socially. I have a myspace profile set up for my website, it's our #3 referrer, responsible for about 20% of the traffic coming to our site. The bulletins allow you to keep up on everyone's project, be it their band, their bo...

Thanks Andrew, I am happy to see us with more visitors every month, but was wondering how many of those are actual visitors. I use whichever stats package is built into my host's package. I haven't installed a seperate one.

Thanks again.

I'm wondering how accurate the 'unique visitors' numbers are, on average? How many are bots? How many are me refreshing all day long, etc?

Those should only account for one within a 24 hour period right?

So the website I run keeps growing as far as content offerings and I'm having a hard time deciding on a proper form of navigation. As it is now I use a php header so I can easily update the header site-wide with changing one file. But the page content and everything else ...

I did a google search, but with terms like RSS and PODCAST and XHTML its almost impossible. I have an mp3 of my indie radio show that I would like to submit to iTunes as a podcast, they tell me I have to supply them with an RSS feed to the podcast which I understand just points to an xhtml file that...

I feel your pain cowkiller, I bought MJ's Thriller for $2, watched it DL and now its no where to be found. I do a "search for purchased music" and it tells me I have everything I bought. Last video I buy from there, for now at least. On XP here as well, no stinking dirty mac. :-p

Sorry Axe, I don't understand - which " characters do I take out? If I start taking them out of the code the code won't work? Can you edit one line of the code and show me?

I'm able to view the page fine by clicking on the link provided. But I think its not a problem with the code on the pages I want the header on, I think its an actual problem with the php page. My other pages display this error message: Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting ',' or ...

So I have a site in which the header may occasionally change and instead of updating every page, I would like to make the header dynamic via php. But its not working. Most likely due to my complete ignorance to php. So on my pages I put this code into the top of the page: [code]<?php require_once...

Whoa, just found out that LiveJournal is open source. They allow you to download the full code of their services. As far as I can tell I can just take that, modifyit and throw it on my server and call it a day? I can't find a license anywhere outlining their terms but everythign I have found makes i...

Well, its for zinesters (people who publish their own magazines via copymachines/indie presses) so I would want it to have like a pic of the cover of their zine and personal mug shot if they want. It would have to have an editable "About Me" section, a 'contact' function and a link to a PDF or paper...

Ok, so the title isn't completely accurate, but, what I'd like to do is add a Personal Page, 'Friends', blog service to my site for a very specific group of people. It's not meant to take on MySpace or LJ or DiviantArt or any of the others, but I'd like to offer similar services just for zinesters. ...

My friend would like me to host a video of some kite tricks he can do for all his kite friends to view. However, I don't want all these friends sharing the links on dozens of forums and bringing my 5GB monthly traffic limit to a hault. So what I would like to do is host the video but make it so they...

I sent this link to the composer I did the site for, he wanted to post this himself but didn't want to register assuming he'd never be back. :) I want to thank Alan for designing my site. I am getting lovely remarks from fellow composers, friends and my agent who is a tough sell. The music at 30 sec...

Thanks guys. It was a fun job that didn't take too long and was fun... mic check, the page won't be updated enough to call for a NEWs section on that page, originally I wanted him to write a short letter of intro and sign it and we could use that to even out the page, but we were both concerned abou...
