Wow, I also installed the YSlow. This is awesome, gives me something to do with my free time during thanksgiving. It makes senses, that the site performance should be a weighting factor.

Like vetofunk said, as long as you still maintain competitive positioning keep doing what you are doing. I wouldn't slow down or speed up off-site optimization, just make sure to stay one step ahead of your competition.

I think SEO companies will have to evolve as technology does. Technology has changed so much in the past 15 years, who knows what the next 5 hold in store. I think the most important fundamental is to be flexible and have capital, in-case you need to invest in bleeding edge technology.
