Who determines one's necessity? Should everyone email Leo first before they hit the power on button? I don't use air conditioning and I don't watch TV. I bet you do both of those things. I think I use less energy than you. English is not my first language (I know my wording looks a little awkward)....

I do electrical work sometimes as well. Air conditioners, refrigerators and electric heating, take more than anything. PCs running 24/7 would be the last thing to kill the planet. I don't think that leaving a PC running does anything to the environment at all. Well, there is something called reality. And if you leave your PC on overnight for nothing you will be wasting 40W per hour. Which means 8hs x 40W equal to 320W per night. If half the PC owners in USA think as wrong as...

No. But, as ATNO/TW told you, you can shutdown your workstations and you can't shutdown your servers.
I thing the key is shutting down workstations that don't really need be working overnight.

I used to keep my PC running 24x7 but I don't do it any more for environmental reasons. I just keep the servers running.

How often do you boot usually? I'm talking about your typical reboot behaviour. Let aside those days of software or driver installing. Which force you to reboot.

If you turn on your pc every day and usually you don't restart it, you should vote "once a day"
