Does anyone know how much server overhead there is when PHP if statements are evaluated, i.e. memory consumption and CPU usage and if this is a major issue? I've searched around and didn't find anything that definitively answered this question. For example, if I have a WordPress blog and use a lot o...

California Bill AB 178 was postponed back on April 27th, but it has reappeared as California tries to deal with the budget crisis. More info here: http://www.performancemarketingalliance.com/2009/03/24/campaign-to-fight-california-bill-178-is-underway/ I received this email from Linkshare. It provid...

I have been using the noscript tag to provide a warning to users who have JavaScript disabled or who use script blocking plugins like Noscript on one of the websites I run. The site will not function properly without JavaScript disabled and users may not be able to figure out why it is not working w...

They said to give it I think at least 30 days to really see what it pays with everything optimized. For Ozzu I actually made more on the first few days and it continued to decrease over the month and it was well below what my expectations were. People probably figured out that the links weren't rea...

@ joebert: Thanks for the advice. Considering that I filed a report with the BBB and they are still refusing to pay, I think paraphrasing the emails would probably be just more wasted time. @Bigwebmaster: How did you manage to give 30 days notice if you only ran the ads for a month? Did you arrange ...

Even after filing a report with the Better Business Bureau, Kontera is still refusing to pay my account balance. I honored the contract, as set forth in their terms of service, and gave 30 days notice before removing the tags from the website. Yet, they are claiming that I breached the contract beca...

Is there a method to detect if the cookies used by your affiliates are being blocked? I know that Spybot adds rules to both Internet Explorer and Firefox to block cookies from affiliates such as Commission Junction and Linkshare. I'm sure there are other ad-blocking programs that proactively block c...

I have read a couple of articles that correlate bounce rate and search engine performance (at least for Google). I'm trying to figure out what exactly is considered a bounce and some other stuff, so I made a list of questions: 1. What is the duration for a single page visit until it is no longer con...

I have a site with many pages that are regularly updated. Often a page needs to be replaced with entirely new content because the old content expired. In this case, the title, content and URL all need to change. Because there are so many new pages being added, the 301 redirects would really pile-up....

Recently I moved a site to a new hosting company. After pointing the name servers to the new host, the site has been switching back and forth between the old server and the new server. I know that it takes 24-48 hours to fully propagate. Here's the strange thing. Sometimes I get the old server in on...

Awesome! The best part about Firefox is the addons, but it can be a bit of a hog with many windows and tabs open.

I have split off an existing section of site and decided to create a new website that expands on that section. I want to move the old section to the new website. For SEO purposes, is it better to leave the old section on the first site and then add links to the corresponding pages that point to the ...

I'd like to add a drop-down menu on themebot.com . It needs to be light-weight and accessible for search engines. I've looked at Suckerfish, Suckerfish variations and other CSS-based drop down menus but I haven't found a technique that will work for this specific situation: 1. The first requirement ...
