All you need to do is to use their services and other partner sites of Yahoo. There are some sites that can help you on that matter but here's the clincher, you can use Yahoo answers for your promotions. It's all up to you to find another website that is good for Yahoo.

If it is a do follow site, you may have benefit to increase your backlinks but if it's not, that's useless unless if someone likes your site and it is considered as traffic.

You're in the right track bud. Joining forums is one of the basic factor to consider if you want to start and promote it online. Yes that's right. It may have a better chance to have traffic but we must have a good content for converting visits to sales. It may be hard but it's possible.

Google is better on traffic because in general, Google is in demand than Yahoo. When it comes on user interface, I will go on Yahoo and obviously you can see the difference of it.
