Of course the fun part is trying to fix your distro when you break it : D
That's how I learned most of my linux knowledge.

Though very true I still can't find myself to recommend a live cd to people. But either way whatever you decide to choose, have fun with it! Caution: Working with Linux will make time fly by.

You need to actually connect to the wireless AP. Use something like dhcpclient or dhcpcd. Command would be as follows. sudo iwconfig dhclient wlan0 or sudo iwconfig dhcpcd wlan0 Depending which you use. That should assign you an IP etc. let me know how it goes. Don't forget to substitute wlan0 to wh...

I'd say downloading and installing a distro onto your harddrive over using a live cd would probably be more fruitful as far as learning how linux works goes.

The part that says "Can't finde kernel build files..." is your problem. I believe that means you need the source for your kernel. Anarchy asked if you had it but never stated whether you did or not. Not too familiar with fedora so I wouldnt know if that would be included on the cd or if yo...

thats true. Really both are good and you cant go wrong with either. Just keep in mind the mini comes with just that. a mini with power adapter and dvi adapter and the imac comes with everything needed.

imac would probably be best since it comes with everything and has good specs for a decent price (ive been tempted even though i already own 2 macs). but mini is great for saving space and portability.

Probably a mini. I havent checked them out in a long time but i believe they come with core 2 duos and plenty of connections compared to the first gen minis all for a starting price of 600 bucks (i may be wrong though they might of upped it to 700 but still check them out on the apple website).

why not plug in your laptop with an ethernet cable and use yum to install ndiswrapper from the net? once you get ndiswrapper installed its not hard to use. Here is a guide i made a long time ago for using ndiswrapper. If you have any questions just ask. http://www.ozzu.com/ftopic58663.html&highl...

Post Posted: January 6th, 2007, 9:29 pm

was just a suggestion cause i remember i tried the 64 bit version for ubuntu once and i couldnt get it to work (yes i had a 64 bit processor). gave me some weird error i never seen before. i wish i remember what it was. but when i tried the 32 bit version it worked just fine.

what is up with you having terrible problems with gentoo. i havent encountered any of those problems. have you tried the 32bit version. might be something specific to the 64 bit version.

puppy. never heard of it. might check it out. also i wanted to mention it seems developers of beryl want to stick to sabayon as the main distributer of beryl so it seems they will be working close together. wonder what may come of this.

Post Posted: January 3rd, 2007, 7:58 pm

ha ha so true. its best for a first time linux user to choose a well established distro with a well established community for support. then from there see if you want to branch off to other distro spin offs. they released a new sabayon by the way. gonna try to check it out when i have time. did you ...
