Bigwebmaster, et al...I don't know how much you guys/gals are into Chat, but I found a very simple easy-to-install chat hack at phpBBhacks:

http://www.phpbbhacks.com/viewhack.php?id=510

I installed it at my board in less than 15 minutes and it works just fine.

Just thought I'd offer it up to you as a possibility for the forum since there seems to be quite a few registered users who might enjoy it. I'll even add a poll to help you decide if it's worth the effort.

personally, I'd like to keep the chat feature off of ozzu for a few reasons -

1. the forum itself could end up being used less
2. it's going to use a lot more bandwidth than it already does
3. if you really want to chat with a member, then PM your IM address

I voted that I really don't care, but these are the reasons I think the chat
should remain off of ozzu. I probably wouldn't use it anyway, but if
bigweb wants it then i'm ok with it i guess.

I would have to tend to be on Unflux's side on this one. I think the main reason I would probably go against having a chat is that the forum might be used less, which means less pages to help other people, which means less inbound searching traffic as well to help increase more members to the board (which will overall help others).

That is why when people usually PM me for help on something, I tell them to post to the board so that it will benefit others as well.

maybe we could just have scheduled chat sessions of IM or and IRC channel or something, where we could just chat and have fun *shrugs*

I see your point Unflux and Bigwebmaster. For my sports board it adds to the "competition" so-to-speak...people can rag each other quicker. Unflux made some good points, but for what it's worth for other members who do have their own phpBB boards like I do...it is the easiest mod I've installed so far.

If I remember correctly there were 3 pages to edit (minimal)...every thing else was uploads to a separate directory.

i think it would be a good idea, an easy way to get the info you want, other than having to wait days for people to reply, but unflux has some good points as well

I don't think people ever wait days for replies, its usually hours, or maybe the next day at most (unless its a pointless post).

ozzu isn't the only board on the web either ;)

you could just as easily post elsewhere, or spend some time on google
searching and researching for your answers like many of us do. I tend to
learn things better that way anyway.

Besides, that's what IM, MSNMessenger, YahooMessegner, and ICQ are
for. :)

I agree after rethinking things UNFLUX. The chat thing is probably appropriate for places like my sports board...but not here. I usually learn something from every post I read. Including this post.

If you guys would like, I'd prefer if you lock this post. I'd suggest deleting it entirely, but the content included thus far may provide reasons for future viewers why chat just won't cut it here.

well, i'm glad you agree, but I wasn't trying to say my opinion is law or
anything like that. hope you realize that. ;)

I'll lock it, but there's no reason to delete it. Bigwebmaster is the one to
decide on adding it anyway. :)
