I noticed on the US election post that there was a message left in a dark blue. I use the dark theme and when viewing posts like that it is quite difficult to read unless you highlight the text.

Can anything be done to prevent situations like that, or is it just a case of just accepting it?

Javascript could be used to check the contrast of text in posts, similar to what is done with the HP color contrast verification tool, and when a bad contrast is detected the texts color is switched to white or black depending on which color the background is.
