I did as well, however I believe Bigwebmaster was doing some tweaking at that time. That was probably the cause.

Well I know that there was a release of an upgrade for phpbb yesterday, and today there was a oops re-release of the upgrade this morning. I was guessing that there may have been a correlation.

There was some dowtime yesterday morning around that time. I am estimated it was down for about one hour. It was actually not because of me, I did get things back running though :)

I have had major problems accessing Ozzu most days for the last month or so. It is at its worst during the morning and early afternoon (UK time).

If I do manage to access the site it is often slow and unresponsive - often gving page can't be displayed errors .... timeouts.

When America wakes up the problem is a 99% non existant.

Any ideas as to what that may be about?

From what Bigweb has told me, it's not any one single thing, but a combination of things. He's already made efforts this week to correct some things and tweak others. I've already noticed significant improvement over the last couple days. He's definitely on it though. We appreciate your patience. Just hang in there. It will improve.

Well, at last after 4 or 5 hours I am able to post again.

For a while I was getting this msg:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Too many connections in /home/ozzu/public_html/db/mysql4.php on line 48 Sorry, we are currently experiencing difficulties with high server load. Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser or cross your fingers and try again later.. This error occures usually when there is high load but also when maintaince to the database is done (such as backing up the database) Thank you, Staff

At least that is telling me something instead of just refusing to do anything.

Interesting. I wonder if Bigweb just simply has to up the number of allowed concurrent connections. Wouldn't that just be too easy *lol

Thanks everyone for being so patient on this. I believe I tracked down and fixed one of the major problems putting the huge load on the server. Speed should be improved now. If you are noticing any issues please do not hesistate to PM me or post here.

Hi Cowkiller,

Did it last for very long this morning compared to the other mornings? I am still getting some slow queries showing up that i need to work on, but it still should be much better compared to last week.

It was down this morning for at least 15 minutes or so that I am aware of. Was getting the "too many concurrent connections" error. Overall though much better.

According to bandwidth graphs ozzu wasn't completely down but bandwidth dropped considerably for about an hour, I am guess that is when many were receiving the too many concurrent connections error. Ozzu should be better than before, but as you can see it looks like I need to resolve a few more issues causing problems.

cowkiller - I do not think anybody is deliberately trying to hack ozzu, or bring ozzu down. Lately in the mornings there have been increased bot activity and a few archivers which are putting additional stress on the server. One of the main issues last week was the new RSS feeds I added to ozzu had one very unoptimized mysql query putting an extremely large load on the server. That one is resolved. I just need to continue optimizing some of the mysql queries and I think that will resolve most of these issues in the morning.

????????????????????????????

This is odd.

When creating a test page on my pc, I created a dummy link just for
testing purposes : <a href="zz.htm">bla</a>. zz.htm does not exist on
my pc and should give a "not found error".

When I click on that link I get the error messsage that both Cowkiller
and myself have quoted on this thread.

As this link is pointing to my local machine (even though it is a bad link)
how on earth am I seeing this Ozzu error message?

*Confused*

--------------------

I might add, that after seeing that error message originally on Ozzu a few days
ago I could no longer visit any web pages on the www .... all pages
timed out. Only after a reboot did things return to normal. I wonder if the
two are connected?

Certainly not. We are all getting this now and then

I think you misunderstand me.

What I mean is, after seeing that error message I was unable to access
any website anywhere on the web. And now the error message page
seems to have "invaded" my system ... or somehow "replaced" the
default "page not found" error message that a local bad link should
produce.

Are you saying everybody has this problem?

Do two things. Go to start| run and type ipconfig /flushdns That will clear your local DNS cache.
Then open Internet Explorer Tools |Internet Options and clear your cache. Close IE and reopen it.

Not sure if that will take care of it, but that's the first thing I would do.

OK, now I understand. Very odd problem though, you should do as ATNO suggested. You may also try this. Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Reset web settings.

Well, I am now suitably red-faced ... I must be going senile.

I managed to forget that I had an html file with that Ozzu error message
in it already on my system .... named zz.htm of all things.

No wonder local links to zz.htm (which I named to specifically result in a
bad link) were bringing up that error message. I thought that name
would be unique, but lo and behold it was already in existance, and with a
message that had me raisng my eyebrows.

There is something to be said for keeping the My Documents folder clean
and tidy I think.
