Would it be possible to consider a forum for programs? I ask because I find that if I have a problem, question or comment about a general program like Mozilla Firefox, Winamp, ZoneAlarm, etc. I usually don't know where to put it. It's really not specified anyplace where these queries should go...

Stuff like winamp and zone alarm would tend to go into the windows forum (i think). Same with linux software. unless it's like graphics software then obviously graphics section etc.

I had guessed so. It just doesn't make much sense to me, honestly. After all, the decription for the Windows forum calls for discussion relating to the OS itself. I just don't see why we would stick stuff in about programs that simply run on that platform; unless that's the way it's done here and I am simply misinformed.

It's a hazy area, if you have a question about a hardware driver do you post it in hardware or the OS category? I've noticed windows drivers go in hardware and linux drivers go in linux forum.

Thing is that most program are OS-specific. It is a tough one though.

Some of the time your post is applicable to multiple forums, in which case I would normally put it in the one where it will get seen most :D

H87GTX878!!! That's my point. It just seems so much easier to have another whole category...but...whatever, I guess.

Well, it would be several whole other categories wouldn't it? Windows software, Linux software, Mac software... what's the point? :)

Windows software relates to the Windows OS because it runs on Windows. Linux software relates to the Linux OS because it runs on Linux, so there are already forums that exist for these types of questions :)

Agreed with Axe. I have noticed, however, that there seems to be a gap in the applications area. I haven't thought enough about it to post it, but I've noticed many programmers here do more than program for web. Many are writing applications for their own purposes or a company they work for etc. I'm wondering if it would be too far removed from the "Webmaster" concept to include such a category. I'm just thinking off the top of my head, but it's not the first time the idea crossed my mind.

To tell you the truth, I come here for everything computer-related. It's the only place one can get excellent help and give help to others without the place being chock-full of idiots like at computing.net.

too true. I've got a couple of accounts at other forums, but rarely go there unless I need something specialised. I love this place :D

Well for specific program related questions like for firefox, I find that the best place to go and get answers is on the mozilla site itself. Same goes for winamp ;)
