How about making Ozzu ad-free for people who donate a minimum/nominal amount?

You only have to look at the users online right now (23 registered / 984 guests) to see that the ads would be there to be clicked for the majority of users anyway?

I don't think the ads are too obtrusive but if I had the choice I'd probably stump up the cash as I spend quite a bit of time on here.

Thoughts anyone?

My best guess is the majority of the 948 online users are bots and only 23 are real people. Now would you want to depend on that income if you were counting on 23 people to click your ad-free page? What would you charge for membership if that was to be the way of things?

The majority of the 984 (dislexia?) online users are really visitors. They aren't bots.

This suggestion is something I would consider if there was alot of interest in it.

It doesnt really bother me either way, but it sounds like a good idea for those who do not like ad's.

I'm not entirely understanding your post. I doubt that 23 click-throughs on Ozzu ads are the difference between Ozzu staying afloat or sinking into the www abyss. It would be a non-compulsory donation to make Ozzu that little bit nicer for those who did not care for the ads.

Chances are there won't be a lot of interest as a lot of posters on here are still in high-school/college and are more interested in saving up for their next x-box game. I was just throwing the idea out there to see what others thought.

my filters take out the ads before I even see them. Hell, I forgot Ozzu started using ads until it was mentioned. However, I would like to donate for the sake of donating to a good website, rather then for some ads to disappear.

It's going to be funny when the plugins start carrying their own little supprizes.
There's already been a few tastes of that cake hitting the public tongue.

If I wasn't poor & didn't know how to modify things myself, I'd rather fork over a membership fee hands down.
That way I know how the provider is making their living, I don't have to hope & pray that there's no strings attached. ;)

Ever noticed how thoose "Automatic Update Features" always deem it crucial to install somthing later ?

It's a crucial part of the plugin, because without it, the plugin maker can't afford to support it.
Look around Ozzu, I've got little sniplets to fix various browser hoohaws all over the place.
I'm also poor...

It comes down to how hard do you work for your money ?

*She works haaaard for the money ! da dum da dum, sooo haaard for the money ! da dum da dum she works hard for the money & ha hooo hum hee hoe hiiiiiigh*

If you don't work like a slave for your money, it makes sense to pay a subscription fee instead of fumbling over new blockers & updates to get it free.
If you do work hard for your money, you value every little thing you do, & will take the time to do it all yourself.

I hear somone thinking it,
"I could pay a subscription for ad blocking software that works on alot of sites"

Let me ask you this, how fun or informative would an internet full of nothing but add blocking software be ?

Oh yeah, that sounds like more fun than Microsoft Windows.
OMG ! I have to find a Blocker for the Blockers Blizzocker Bleeker Blocker !

The ads at Ozzu are about the most non-intrusive ads I've ever seen. I mean 'never seen.'

I am a member of a similar forum to this one, which did this, and a few members did fork over the money to support the site, but I don't think very many did. The moderators still got ads too :(

If you ask me, it would be nice if people with a certain postcount, say, 2000, had no ads, for contributing so much value, but the ads here are extremely non-intrusive, so what would be the point anyway? (Feel free to increase the number 2000 as needed to prevent me from benefitting from this program :-))

Ultimately, I think the effort in implementing this or even in installing this would not match the benefit, and I wouldn't implement this if I were in your position.
