i think it would be very helpful if the name of the last topic posted in was added to the Last Post column, so people could see the last topic and then be able to get to that thread quicker.

There is already something that will take you there. If you look in the Last Post column, just to the right of the poster's name is a black arrow pointing to a little white icon. Click the icon and it will take you directly to the last post made.
