Mail Notification

Is is just me, or are the topic reply notification e-mails slower on the new system. I find myself responding to threads before the e-mail ever arrived. The lag, I'm guess, is somewhere between 5 and 20 minutes.

I don't know about this system specifically, but I do know not all servers send out E-Mails individually, especially if it's a server under a decent amount of load. One server I worked on a while ago was set to queue all out going E-Mails and then send out anything that was waiting every 15 minutes or so. Most servers I've worked with send it out instantly though as soon as it hits the queue.

I was just hit with a pile of notifications tonight. Something must be backed up. Or, maybe this was normal and I didn't notice...

Hmm, I am not sure why there would be a delay. The server load is very low and I just checked the queue and its very empty. I will test it out later.

It could be the SMTP server for netscape.net. Unfortunately, I don't get a lot of mail on that account. If you like, I can send myself an hourly test and measure delivery time.

Bwm: maybe you shouldn't spend too much time investigating this yet.

Feel free to do some tests if you have the time and patience. If you do please let me know what you find out. I will likely be looking into it still because if people aren't receiving emails that would hurt allowing new members to signup here.
