The "Main Menu" link isn't very visible on the page. Perhaps it should look a bit more like a button especially with all the big bright headers directly below that line competing for attention. It took me quite a while to figure out how to login with the new menu and I assume I won't be the only one...

I will see what I can do to make it more noticeable. I have had a few members let me know the same thing you just stated. I am thinking it is most hard for old ozzu members because they were used to the old interface.

Here are a few possiblet hings I am thinking to grab attention:

  • Make the background color under the main menu link a bright color like on the sidebar menu
  • Use some Flash special effects that take up a huge area on the page to point it out. Once a user clicks on the main menu it will set a cookie (if they aren't a member), or update their account via MySQL to not load that animation anymore since they now know where the menu is
  • Change the location of the main menu link

Any other ideas would be great.

Perhaps align it here instead?

Main problem with that Spork is that the trailcrumbs would start to interfere as on some pages they get quite long. I made some changes to it, does it grab more attention now? Hard refresh the page if you do not see the changes.

I like the background thought. Might be nice to tie it into the open menu state as well...

Agreed, looks alot better now.

As a matter of interest seeming as you are playing about with the menu system, are you still looking at the possibility of having a background colour toggle switch so people have an idea that they can choose the dark theme as well as the light theme?

Could you please remove that arrow? I find that quite annoying.

Yes I am considering something like that.

Finally removed that, main reason for that was to try and grab attention to members on where the new menu is.

as an aside, just took a glimpse at the dark theme for first time in long time. An FYI the gray text in the bottom right Google ad is really hard to read. Blends in way too much.

I actually like the ads ever since Google started targeting ads to the visitor instead of the content.
I've found some kickass local stuff since that started.

I definately like the new smaller top-right banner more than the large leaderboard that used to be there. I pretty much ignore the text ads that show up unless I see the words "Tampa" or "Clearwater", but I always pay a second of attention to the images that don't look familiar.

With the old leaderboard, I was actually using Operas user.css to hide it and make it look like it does now. :D
Strong with this one, the sudo is.
