I got a pm notification and also a template for the notification for the first time login but no new pm.
Did this happen to anyone else?

This has been asked several times. Whats likely to have happened is you might have been one of the 2200 people that got PM spam sent yesterday and because BWM removed it you will not not be able to see a PM that was removed. However because it was sent to you you did recieve notification of it.
