I do f@h, but it's on a slower computer and I think I've only got about 14 units at the moment.

And for those who have no clue what any of us are talking about, this is distributed computing.

You basically let your CPU do calculations during idle times. Many groups of people set up teams to compete with each other for points or number of completed work units, etc....

It's essentially a way to get thousands of computers to do research with more power and speed than just a few computers could do on their own.

thanks for moving and renaming. one computer can't fold and run seti at the same time so we should decide to do either just seti or just folding.

Makes no difference to me. Like I said I already do folding on one, but I could set up Seti on the other if people prefer that.

Just my additional 2 cents on this suggestion. I like it. With the number of active members we have at OZZU we could establish a pretty competitive team.

More details on why I like this. Take folding@ home as an example. I chose that one because the research is "folding" proteins. This research can benefit people with Alzheimer's and Parkinsons disease just to name a couple. My father died from complications of Parkinson's desiease last year.

SETI is not quite as tangible, (Search for Extra Terestrial Intelligence), but important just the same.

If Bigwebmaster likes the idea, this could fit in the General or Extras category. I have three computers I could personally set up with whatever we'd choose.

I suggest we first see if the idea will fly, then have a vote to see which one to support
(I personally like the idea of folds the best)
