Brian, this will take you about two minutes to do and I think it would benefit a lot f people here. The suggestion is to add a "mark posts as read" link to the "View unread posts"

The solution is very simple and here:

I just stumbled on it it today and haven't used it yet, but if it does what it says, it might solve some of your archiever issues, etc.
