Earlier on, Penguin has suggested a forum for debates, news, and politics.

Now, I think it needs not always be politics or some current news. It can also be some ancient topics or whatever.

I'd like to suggest if anyone is interested about team debates.

Penguin and I will team together against spork and R_T or spooF and jflynn.

What do you think, guys?
It'll be fun. :D

I think team debates would be very good, Many people would enjoy and like this idea in my opinion.

I think we should give this a shot, Mabye me or George should post a debate, And set some ground rules ( saves the moderators a job )

We would make the teams, And a few basic rules.

If this idea takes of it could be pretty cool. Let us know what you guys think.

Its worth a shot.

Like in the other topic about a debate forum, this is a webmaster forum. I don't mind the topics, but organizing a team debate seems a little unreal. Your more than welcome to bring up some debatable topic, and if people start debating great, if not oh well.

I see the premium membership forum turning into a little more of a debate forum as there is already a general discussion and the description kind of sounds like it, but its still just a discussion forum, which isn't that all debating really is?

Myself and George have come up with the following rules for the team debate.

RULES

1. Before the team debates start you must Pick a team member. ( You can do that in this thread if you wish to take part)

2. you must have 150 posts to compete in the team debates.

3. If posting information from another source other than your own, Post it in a
Quote:
qoute
and post the link to the source.

4. You can edit your post up to 3 times ( this is to avoid confusion to other posters ) Also if you do edit your post. Please post the reason to why it was edited.

5. You must reply, or participate in it within 48 hrs, if anyone of your team members fail to do so, will be count as lose.

6. If you are In a team, to make it easy on other members please state your team in your forum signiture.

Example : Debate Team: Liam - George

7. Please post in full English if possible, Try to keep swearing down to a minimum.

I'm still not sure why it's teams - do you collectively plan on compiling arguments?

We thought teams would be a good idea, Mabye it would improve the debate and you have two people from each side expressing their own Ideas on the subject.

This is only a trial, It's worth a shot :P

It's completely pointless and irrelevant to what Ozzu is all about. I come to Ozzu like the majority of you to learn something new or provide help to other users, not debate.

You want create a situation that puts one individual or one group against another. While differences of opinion may appear during general conversation, it's not the same as creating an atmosphere that promotes unnecessary friction which, so far, is to at a minimal level.

It would not be unnecessary, Its people with a negative attitude who would make it that way.

You can have friendly debates. You thinking in a negative manner would probably turn it negative.

It still would be in there, Just specific threads could be team debates.

To be honest I am going to stop suggesting things, Not becuase my idea was not put in place becuase that would be stupid.

But becuase everyone seems to try and find all the negatives and no good points to ideas....

Relevant? I don't know, maybe something regarding digital information and the creation, modification, transmission and understanding of how it operates, works, comes to fruition and otherwise is built.

Guys, it's not like what you're imagining. 2 guys against 2 others, yelling, fisting...

It should be something friendly and nice. I agree by not creating a forum just for that, but it'll be dam nice to have one like it in the general once in a while.

I don't think there is any reason to ask to post a topic in the general discussion.

If you want to start a team debate thread then your welcome too. It would be much like that of the Tennis matches in the digital sections.

I've seen several debates going on in the General Discussion forum before and after a little bit, a MOD gets pissed and locks it.

I don't think "team debates" would fit in that forum though. They should be open to all.

It just is. When I come to Ozzu I do not come here looking for a debate or to argue with anyone for fun. That is not what Ozzu is about nor is it what Ozzu is based on. If you want to debate then I suggest looking at these sites as that is what their stated purpose is.

http://www.debateforums.net/
http://www.volconvo.com/
Any of these

I don't speak on behalf of all the Moderators but I know I dread going into General Discussion some days in fear of some topic being started that will ensure an argument or two.

Think about it penguin, what brought you to Ozzu in the first place and what made you stay? I hope to god it wasn't the general discussion board and posting games. Most people come here because of the wealth of information and knowledge this board represents. The people who stay here do so to contribute their knowledge and maybe learn something new not to hang out in general discussion debating this and that (at least I hope so). We come here to learn and help in matters consistent with web design and technology in general.

Wow, Grinch, but when you say is the dumbest thing really sounds a bit harsh. We're ( I and Penguin )sorry about this post.

But we can learn from a successful culture that, a fun, enjoyable environment usually can help us to learn and work things more. Eg. Google.

Where if an environment is viewed overly serious, can be abit too stiff.

I'd say it's not entirely pointless, or entirely dumbest thing can ever be heard. Because Penguin values familiarity, so he prefers play debate with us rather than outside.

:Thank you for the links:

"I don't know what to say, to mend things back if someone's feelings hurt, I'm very open. Maybe I should just shut up."

But I do agree to what many have said, that is (about 80% disagree, 20% agree), about not looking forward to a casual friendly play-debate in the general section ocassionally, because it's pointless to have one when the majority doesn't want.

I love you

Friendly debates rarely stay friendly. We have had many topics here that started out as a friendly casual conversation but there are people out there lacking the ability to remain civil. Maybe it is internet anonymity that allows them to behave the way they do but it ends up ruining something that could be good.

I'm not against casual conversations and light-hearted topics but purposely starting a debate is only asking for trouble and is counter-productive.

Never say you love me again.

We already have debates... Outcomes for debates is win/loose... correct? according to the Team Debates rules it is. So you are merely trying to create an argument that is better then the other side.

What do we do in competitions? THAT is FRIENDLY "debates" in a way.

Grinch is right... Debates rarely tend to stay friendly. Just read this topic and see how ironic yet true it is. Debates over debates and people are saying (supporters) that it would be friendly and yet theres a lot of harshness out there.

Just saying... competitions is our debates :)
