Since the update to Ubuntu 9.10 seems to have wiped out my user-dictionary for my spell-checker anyways, meaning I have to re-teach it that "color" is an actual word, I'm looking for a new spell-checker to integrate with gedit.

Any suggestions/questions ?
Why yes, yes I am.

Not that I use gedit much, but it does spell check -- looks to me like it is a "plugin" under Preferences->Plugins. I don't know if you will have any other option, but you could look at

configure --help | less

in the source tarball to see if there is any possibility there (I just had to switch mail clients and build from source, which I noticed both the old one, balsa, and the new one, sylpheed, have a --enable-gtkspell option if you have gtkspell installed).
