Okay here is my second linux question ... I have a Samsung 2232GW screen, and it's default aspect ratio is 16:10 but in my display settings I only have a choice between 4:3 and 16:9 so all the images are a little blurry, not a lot, just so that it's real irritating ... Is there a way I can set my aspect ratio to 16:10 .. ?

If you have the correct video drivers, you shouldn't have a problem with it.

dammit ... I really think I do ... the settings thing tells me that I have NVidia 8 series drivers installed for my GPU, but for my screen itsself I can't find the proper ones anywhere or the proper configuration, so I am stuck on Plug 'n Play drivers ...

Yeah.

I'm still on campus at the moment. When I get back to my apartment tonight I'll look on my Ubuntu box to see what you might be able to do.

the problem here is the monitor driver.
somewhere in that big mess there SHOULD be a monitor driver that fits your make/model. you may need to google it to see if it has a different name.. i know with my monitor, there's drivers listed both under KDS and Korea Data Systems, so i had to learn where to look..

I promise that I have googled it ... and there only is a Samsung, nothing else that is even close to that name ...

I will do the rest of the googling tonight when I get back home ... it's off to work now ...

Okay a little update, and this is really weird ... I don't know what the hell is gouing on now ... Just before I left I set my screen to a 226BW which is in every way similar to mine except for the exterior ... so now all does look well, except any images on facebook ...

now I realize that this firstly does seem impossible, and maybe irrelevant, because not everyone here are big fans of the bandwidth waster ... but I still use it because many of my friends are a bit technology impaired and that is the only way we can really stay in touch online ...

I don't quite understand how it's possible, but it happens ... I wonder if it isn't firefox, or maybe the way the facebook host returns images ... I have no idea, but I think I'll make it without images in FB looking perfect ...

lol yea..makes sense. you could try out some browser alternatives, such as konqueror, epiphany, opera, etc.. and see how images look in those browsers.

I'll get them this evening and see what happens ... I wouldn't mind opera as I think it's a real decent browser ... maybe even chrome ...
