I'm new to the bind 9 arena and I hope question doesn't sound completely off the wall. Each zone file has an A record and I was asked to replace that A record with a CNAME record. Can I do this with bind 9?

Example:
$ORIGIN .
xyz.com IN SOA bind9.xyz.com

A 10.10.10.10

web1 A 100.10.10.5
web2 A 100.10.10.6
web3 A 100.10.10.7
web4 A 100.10.10.8

webster.xyz.com. IN NS web1.xyz.com.
webster.xyz.com. IN NS web2.xyz.com.
webster.xyz.com. IN NS web3.xyz.com.
webster.xyz.com. IN NS web4.xyz.com.

What I've been asked to do is replace A 10.10.10.10 with something like
IN CNAME http://www.webster.xyz.com.

Is this possible?

sed 's/"what you want to replace"/"what you want to replace it with"/' filename > filename2

That should work. I have had to do that on bulk for a mass of zone records. You will also need to change the serial number so that it is updated when the bind install restarts or you do an rndc command.

you can do that with sed also.

Thanks
