Can't install printer

OH. So I have installed Ubuntu. I don't know which version, but I can't add my printer. I have tried to download other stuff (games) just to get the feel of things and nothing installs. I keep getting these error messages. Did I mess up or just don't know what I'm doing?

Unix & Linux have the worst printer drivers in the world. CUPS is about the best they have but it's still not easy to configure.

I was searching for the same thing as I have Ubuntu, and the closest way that you can make your printer work is through CUPS like Don2007 has already mentioned. I'm not sure how though, but as I have a Lexmark printer (that is already discontinued), I think I'll be trying to make it work on my Ubuntu...
