cant play divx movies in mplayer

i'm running FC2 and the latest version of mplayer.
the player plays everything well exept for divx moviesi even installed al the WIN32 codecs and the divx codec from divx.com
whenever i try to play a divx movie it tells me "no stream found" or it freezes or it crashes... and other misc errors.
can anybody help me, i know its possible i used to play them on my old RH9.
i really dont wanna have to go into windows just to watch a movie

perhaps they're not encoded with DivX. Are you sure it's not the XVid codec?

I believe Mplayer in FC2 supports xvid. There is mention of issues with Mplayer and Divx5 on this page http://www.involution.com/fc2.php
