I downloaded the DVD's from http://www.debian.org/ports/amd64/ and began my install.

However, after choosing where to install apt (cd rom), and another time after entering the user password (before the select apt source menu comes up), I get the following error:

Code: [ Select ]
CPU 0: Machine Check Exception: 4 Bank 4: b200000000070f0f
RIP !INEXACT! 10:<ffffffffa001d8d8> {ide_inb+0x4/0x8 [ide_core]}
TSC 317b3e200a
Kernel panic: Machine check
In interrupt handler - not syncing

The processor im using is an AMD64 3200+ processor. I had tried it using http as the apt source, but my net card driver is not there (so using a substitute driver it wouldn't connect)
