Help

I'm running ubuntu with a Gnome setup and Evolution mail software. However, Evolution is having problems connecting to the exchange server and when I grep " ps auxww | grep evo" i appear to be spawning processes, My result is ever changing such as

Quote:

I've tried deleting them but nothing appears to work. Anybody ever had a similar problem :?:

By deleting, I guess you mean killing the processes.
What else have you don't to check the connection? Can the linux box ping the exchange server? Are there any logs in exchange? How is evolution started, at boot time, command line or in the GUI?

Hi Don,

Yep, I mean i'm killing the processes. I'm loading Evolution via the GUI but killing the processes can be quite an undertaking because the process id's keep changing ... :( Usually I end up rebooting the box, then I get about 15 minutes usuage before Evolution becomes unusable again :( Haven;t tried anything else, i'm no expert on uBuntu/Evolution. It's a new setup.

you could try instead: killall evloution (more information on killall)

if you'd like to try a different email client, thunderbird is a popular choice and its available on both *nix and winblows :]

to install thunderbird if you don't already have it, you'd enter: sudo apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird
in a terminal (more help)

as to why evolution is doing this, i have no idea. although i dont use email clients so that doesn't help either :]

You didn't answer my question about pinging the box.

Hi,

Don - yep, I can ping the exchange box. I just appear to create multiple processes in the background. I'm learning to live with it by killing all processes then restarting Evolution. Saves me having to restart the box :!:

I'll look into Thunderbird when I get a chance (thanks AnarchY SI). If I suss out the problem/resoltuion i'll post it here :D

Hi,
Im running evolution Mail client on Ubuntu, My LDAP option
is greyed out and hence I am not able to configure my LDAP server settings.

Any pointers as to why this could happen.

Are you logged in as administrator? Bad permissions might not give you access to LDAP.

what he's saying is that may be the problem, you may need administrative privileges in order to access it in which case you'd either have to modify the permissions or *eep!* login as root (NO). or give yourself administrative privileges ;) lol
