Hi all, long time no post

Basically, I bought a dedicated linux (freebsd) box the other day, with intention to host a site needing PHP, MYSQL, and basic control panel features straight away.

I've managed to successfully install:
-webmin for my control panel
-php4
-mysql
-perl

However, i'm stuck on FTP. All I need is the ability to connect to the site from my home pc without using my root login- ie from a program like AceFTP. I don't need anonymous ftp, multiple users, or anything else. So far, I've failed miserably at getting ProFTP to work, and I've given up on vsftp now after it didnt work for the 10th time or so.

I need the server working by latest of 00:00 GMT Tuesday 28th :(

Im prepared to pay anyone who sorts this out a max of £50 via paypal. I will provide you with my shell access details via email.

*Before I pay I need to confirm i can log on to ftp from home, after which I will shower my saviour in everlasting love :):)

Is it linux or FreeBSD? (They are two different things).

I am guessing you meant FBSD. When you installed FBSD, which security level did you choose?

Check /etc/inetd.conf; make sure the ftp line is not commented out. If it is, uncomment, and kick it.

Not sure on the security level, it was installed by the server company.

Yeah, i've checked an rechecked my inetd config, and i tried standalone aswell, didnt work.

Meman, your a genius.

WinSCP instantly avoided the whole problem- an ideal solution as I didnt really want to give out my root details :P

Got Paypal?

I'll enter you in my "Credits" page.. perhaps under lifesavers!
