hi,
I am new to this forum but i have a question concerning a program in linux. The company which sold it to my school claims that because it is written in/for linux that nobody can hack his program. We claim that somebody already has done so... any help?

That's a pretty bold claim...

Very bold indeed. Is it licensed under the terms of the GPL?
There is no such thing as unhackable, just sometimes very hard as witnessed by sony dvd protections and the number of cracked applications for windows out in the wild.

You know " Nothing is secure in this world " and when it comes to software they are most targetted and vulnerable.

what kind of program is it. becaus why would someone hack a media player for example. with the obvious exception of making it malicious
Linux is user friendly... It's just selective about who its friends are.

It seems like if they wrote it for linux, it will most likely be open source (won't be if it is some sort of proprietary binary distribution or something). If you have all the source code you could modify it which makes it the opposite of "unhackable". Somebody is pulling either your leg or your school's leg.
