First to see your environment variables type this in a command console:

env

To set an environment variable type the following:

yourvar=somevalue; export yourvar;

so to set path you would type something like:

PATH=/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/admin/bin; export PATH;
