I am interested in setting up some High Performance Computing clusters and would like to get people's views and experiences on this.

I have 2 requirements:

1. Compute clusters to do fast cpu intensive computations
2. Storage clusters of parallel and extendable filesystems spread across many nodes

Both of these should run across multiple commodity hardware nodes and ideally be Linux/Unix based and open source.

Any feedback welcome.

A quick search on Google shows IBM Blade Center as #1 in high performance computing. Please buy one. I just bought some IBM stock. You would be helping contribute to my IRA.

lol

Thanks for the links.

I'd also be interested to know if anyone out there is using HPC in production and what kinds of things they're doing and how...

If you're interested in high performance IBMs then the Blue Gene is your best bet if the sticker shock doesn't make your head explode into candy.

We run P6's carved out into LPARS some of which run Linux, but again that entails purchasing IBM gear -- which I am all for as well, considering it's my company. ;)

There's numerous publications on the web, including some IBM Redbooks on the subject which can be tailored to work with non-IBM X-series boxen. YMMV.
