How to detect USB drive in RHEL

Hi all,

How to detect USB drive in Red Hat linux??

My system information is;

linux localhost.localdomain 2.4.18-14 athlon i386 GNU/linux

I can able to see the CD icon on desktop when i use CD-ROM.But in terms of USB drive, i am not able to find the relevant icon on the desktop .

Please help me on this.

There might not be an icon if the drive isn't mounted. I use FreeBSD so sometimes the commands are different but basically, you want to see if the drive is seen by the system. I would look for the drive in the dmesg output and try to mount it with the mount command.

man mount for the syntax.
