How to get out of text mode in Debian

I installed Sarge Debian and I also installed Gnome but I cannot get out of text mode, can someone help.

Does that automatically install the X framework? (Either xorg or Xfree86)

If not, you need that; Gnome is just a window manager.

If it did, try typing startx at the command prompt.

good luck dude.

i installed debian once, however it was my 2nd linux install, and i never got out of text mode. i installed over it i believe with fedora which i dual boot to this day.

but yea - you could prly just go ahead and try installing an x* with apt and if its already there, apt should be like "hey hoe, i aint funsta do that 'cuz you already got it."

...k..maybe not in those exact words, but close. (O_o)
