I'm using red hat linux. Can someone please tell how many total files I can have under one directory? Is there a limit?

Thank you

As far as I know, the only limit is the amount of space you have available, and the number of filenames you can come up with!

The limit is defined by the number of inodes in the filesystem.
See dumpe2fs(8). (Use man 8 dumpe2fs).

Cheers.
