I fell for it immediately. :)

Most of the security aspects of FreeBSD closely resemble that of it's cousin; OpenBSD. There's quite a bit of cross-talk going on there, if you know what I mean.

That having been said, IMHO yes, the core of the OS is more secure, however the problem is the user/maintainer/administrator.
I could hand a copy of OpenBSD to someone who knew nothing about locking down his system, and I guarantee within minutes that person will have done something to increase the vulnerability of said box -- either through mis-configuration or application installation.
Nothing should ever be left to defaults! It does not matter what OS you choose, if you leave it as-is, you risk compromise. Period.
