How do you install Linux?

Ive got an old PC with Windows 2000 still on it. I wanted to stick Linux on it so i got a Linux Disc, but i dont know how to install it?

Can any one help?

Put the disc in, boot from the cdrom and it should be self-explanatory.

Yes and no.

Yes if you are doing a complete HD installation, no if you use a partition on the drive to do a second OS install.

Linux requires its own partition. If you have free (unpartitioned) space on your disk, you can just use that. Otherwise you can either adjust your partitions using tools like PartitionMagic, or buy another disk :)

Everyone has different opinions on what Linux distributions to use... I've found the installation with RedHat's Fedora to be incredibly easy. (Easier than Windows).

I think i will just use another partition beacuse the windows part still has some files on it, and i can switch betwwen the 2.
