One of the easiest way to do that I think to use the FreeBSD Ports Collection.
When you had installed FreeBSD "sysintall" asked if you would like to install the ports collection.
If you had chose no, you can follow this link to read how to obtain the ports collection:

http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ports-using.html

Code: [ Select ]
[shiva] /usr/ports# make search name=mysql-server
Port:  mysql-server-3.23.58
Path:  /usr/ports/databases/mysql323-server
Info:  Multithreaded SQL database (server)
Maint: ports@FreeBSD.org
Index: databases
B-deps: libtool-1.3.5_1
R-deps: mysql-client-3.23.58 p5-DBI-137-1.37 p5-Data-ShowTable-3.3 p5-Mysql-modules-1.2219

Port:  mysql-server-4.0.16
Path:  /usr/ports/databases/mysql40-server
Info:  Multithreaded SQL database (server)
Maint: sysadmin@alexdupre.com
Index: databases
B-deps: libtool-1.3.5_1
R-deps: mysql-client-4.0.16 p5-DBD-mysql-2.9002 p5-DBI-137-1.37

Port:  mysql-server-4.1.0_1
Path:  /usr/ports/databases/mysql41-server
Info:  Multithreaded SQL database (server)
Maint: sysadmin@alexdupre.com
Index: databases
B-deps: libtool-1.3.5_1
R-deps: mysql-client-4.0.16 mysql-client-4.1.0 p5-DBD-mysql-2.9002 p5-DBI-137-1.37
  1. [shiva] /usr/ports# make search name=mysql-server
  2. Port:  mysql-server-3.23.58
  3. Path:  /usr/ports/databases/mysql323-server
  4. Info:  Multithreaded SQL database (server)
  5. Maint: ports@FreeBSD.org
  6. Index: databases
  7. B-deps: libtool-1.3.5_1
  8. R-deps: mysql-client-3.23.58 p5-DBI-137-1.37 p5-Data-ShowTable-3.3 p5-Mysql-modules-1.2219
  9. Port:  mysql-server-4.0.16
  10. Path:  /usr/ports/databases/mysql40-server
  11. Info:  Multithreaded SQL database (server)
  12. Maint: sysadmin@alexdupre.com
  13. Index: databases
  14. B-deps: libtool-1.3.5_1
  15. R-deps: mysql-client-4.0.16 p5-DBD-mysql-2.9002 p5-DBI-137-1.37
  16. Port:  mysql-server-4.1.0_1
  17. Path:  /usr/ports/databases/mysql41-server
  18. Info:  Multithreaded SQL database (server)
  19. Maint: sysadmin@alexdupre.com
  20. Index: databases
  21. B-deps: libtool-1.3.5_1
  22. R-deps: mysql-client-4.0.16 mysql-client-4.1.0 p5-DBD-mysql-2.9002 p5-DBI-137-1.37

Once you have find the rigth package you have to do ( example ):

Code: [ Select ]
[shiva] /usr/ports# cd /usr/ports/databases/mysql41-server

[shiva] /usr/ports/databases/mysql41-server# make

[shiva] /usr/ports/databases/mysql41-server# make install
  1. [shiva] /usr/ports# cd /usr/ports/databases/mysql41-server
  2. [shiva] /usr/ports/databases/mysql41-server# make
  3. [shiva] /usr/ports/databases/mysql41-server# make install

good luck!

I would actually run a 'make install clean' all on the same line.

No real sense in keeping build source. ;)

Cheers.
