I am trying to install mysql 4.0 on red hat 9.0 but mysql 3 is running. need help

Thank you very much. I finally got the installation to work by remove mysql 3.0 by these following command

rpm -w <package> --nopreum

then install mysql 4.0 from source.

You can install the standard mysql rpms from http://www.mysql.com/

The key is to remember the standard compat libaries. That will allow your dependancies to keep working while mysql has been upgraded. The RPM command is

rpm -Uhv --nodeps *.rpm

Before the upgrade it will be

rpm -qa | grep mysql

After the install it will be

rpm -aq | grep MySQL
