Hi there!

Recently I read article about movement for to linux for java here,
http://news.yahoo.com/s/infoworld/20080 ... orld/98999

what still in my head is, how do they earn the money by freeing their code?

They are probably getting royalties and stuff from anybody who uses the "Java" name. And now that they own mysql, they will still be making money off that, and of course selling the solaris operating system and their special purple hardware.

Java is going to way of the big-shot enterprise, and people want open source for the customization and functionality. So this is a good move for sun.

I thought it was too, but I kind of wonder if they are opening up the JVM or something.

Open Java, close MySQL, I don't like it one bit.

At least we still have postgreSQL. That seems to be what redhat is really pushing for these days, as well as the JBoss. But switching from mysql to postgre would be like a new pair of underwear, at first it is restrictive, but then it becomes a part of you.
