I have some questions about the kernel source. I think i either have to configure it or install it. These are the commands i did from the terminal windows.

su -
enter your password for the root.
mkdir /work

cp /mnt/cdrom/pctel-0.9.6.tar.gz /work
cd /work
tar zxvf pctel-0.9.6.tar.gz
cd pctel-0.9.6

and then i went like this ./configure --with-hal=pct789

at first i got an error message because i did not have all of development packages installed so i installed them. Then i got an error message saying that i need to configure my kernel. Is the kernel source already on Redhat and i need to install it or configure it? If you guys give me the easiest step by step instructions i might be able to get this. It will take me some time. Just like the commands above. It took time for me to get them and i thought i was already and it will the drivers and find the hardware but i was wrong because i got that error. any help please? Thanks.

The kernel is already installed. Without the kernel Redhat wouldn't work at all and you would be looking at a blank screen. I highly recommend at your level that you do not mess with the kernel. I do not even mess with the kernel. You have no reason to in your case either.

no we will not. And if someone tries to help you with this, the post will
be deleted.

Bigwebmaster already gave you the best advice anyone can give, now
why don't you read, re-read it, and then re-read it again until you
understand. Here let me summarize it for you:

DON'T *peach* WITH THE KERNAL!!!!!

got it?
