Here at the school i work at we are trying to promote FOSS and especially linux.
But i now want to have a room full of kubuntu 8.10 machines.
I need them to be on my windows network so that a student can use thier normal username and logon for my network but on the kubuntu machine.
So what i need is for the kubuntu machines to be able to authenticate against the windows network and also map user specific network drives.

Any help is appreciated.

May we assume your Windows network uses Active Directory? If so, check out this article, give it a run through (the process for 8.04 and 8.10 should be exactly the same, so that shouldn't be a concern), so getting it to authenticate should be the easy part. The hard part is automatically mapping network shares. This gave me a hassle on some Macs that I was working with and I wrote up a script to handle it, so you're probably going to have to do the same in this situation. Either way, take a look at this page and see if that helps at all. Otherwise, I'm not sure if anyone else here as experience with this matter, but if anyone I would think this213 or daemonguy would have a solution. If not, as we all know, g00gle is your friend ;]
