Hi all,

Does anyone know what is the latest version of Knoppix and where can i dl the iso from.
And i heard that there are many different types/versions of FreeBSD for different uses. I was just wondering where i can find info to explain the details of the different versions and where can i download it?

Thanks a million,

Kamal

3.6 is the most recent Knoppix;
http://www.knoppix.org/
Is where you can d/l it from.

As for FreeBSD, there are two main branches with a newly formed third.
4.x is the former STABLE branch, though will be sunsetted in favor of the 5.x branch becoming STABLE. (This is not to say it is not stable, but as a branch goes -- in the words of Conner McCloud, "there can be only one".

The newly formed 6.x branch is the CURRENT tree, which will hold many new up-and-coming key features which might find their way into the 5.x STABLE tree, though only after they have been verified as such.

As for BSD's in general, there are several others; NetBSD (which runs on ANYTHING), OpenBSD (the most secure OS on the planet), PicoBSD (fits on a floppy), TrustedBSD (sort of a cross between FBSD and OpenBSD for trusted networks) -- these all however are maintained by different groups.

There's also a Knoppix-like version of FreeBSD called Freesbie. (Runs from CD).

You can get the entire FBSD line-up by going to;
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO885 ... rrors.html

Cheers.
