Linux choice

It's easy to install, too and won't take a long time.
It's my favourite distro :)

I personally use slackware i'm really happy with it, having tried different aswell. but as u say u'r on amd64 so ... :/

Gentoo seems a good choice, gl with the install, i tried a couple of times, but all the time i go tthe feeling of smashing my keyboard to the wall, but it time i'lldo it again :p

if you want to try other distros that are compiled from source there is
LFS ( Linux from scrath ) and SourceMage, altho i think gentoo is the best distro from source out there for the moment.
