Hum,
Confirm that you have a
Config.in
Configure.help
Makefile
README
cmpci
cmpci.c
in the dir the you are building in .

Comfirm that you first did a 'make config' and that worked. Just doing a make won't do anything.
If 'make config' won't work try 'make menuconfig'
If you cant get the config part of the build you can't build the modules. Once you build the modules you can install the mods.
3.
? What gcc version are you using
? What Kernel version

gcc -v and make -v will give you the versions.
sounds like you may be missing files.
I would find another source, it's important to have Configure.help. That is the file that will help you config. without the config being done, the mod can't be build and installed.
cmpci-5.68.tar is what I am ref.

I need to know what it is doing when you try to make. Take me though the steps and results of everything you are doing.

But here is what is in my notes.

I used the configure.help file and set the config for my system.

Then I did a make config

Then did a make modules make modules_install.

if you are seeing
Makefile:159: /Rules.make: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `/Rules.make'. Stop.

You need to check you dir. you should be in side /usr/source/linux per the README.

You need to check the readme and untar the files in dir stated. If you are getting that error, it means that your topdir is not where Rules.make is under /usr/src/linux***

the thing is that the folder

/usr/src/linux*** does not exist on Suse 8.1 so maybe there is other way...

what do you think?
