Hi there,

I have installed linux perfectley without a hitch, now when I get to the prompt and type in my login and password everything is fine, but when I type 'STARTX' as I have been told, it says:

Using authority file/home/sam/.Xautority
Writing authorty file/home/sam/.Xauthority
Using authority file/home/sam/.Xautority
Writing authorty file/home/sam/.Xauthority

Execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno2)
Giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (ernno3): Server error.

What does this mean? has something gone wrong? is it fixable?

All the best

Sam

try running XFdrake as root. You may need to have your install disks handy so that you may complete this operation. XFdrake will walk you through an X configuration wizard which will probe your monitor and allow you to choose resolution and dpi.

hope this works...
