hey guys,
finally made my switch to linux about a week ago, and i love it. im running PClinuxOS 2007. Im wanting to get rid of windows all together, but i use sony acid music studio almost daily. i was wondering if anyone knew of any software that can be compareable to that for linux, or any way to actually run acid. Wine will only run an old 2.0 version, so thats out of the question for me. any ideas?

the only sound production software that comes to mind is audacity, although i'm pretty sure that's not nearly as robust as acid.. have you tried running it through crossover office? you also might be able to run adobe audition in wine or crossover if you have that..
i could give the apps a try to see if i can get them running too, but i'm not sure when i'd have the time to do so.

what distro are you running?

Interesting application. I have been getting disappointed with sound:studio.
Reading the system requirements there is a debian package available, and as they mention yum there should be an rpm in the repositories too.

I would advise reading this page carefully as it is very well written, clear and informative http://ardour.org/system_requirements
I'm installing it as I'm posting this. It will run nicely on my system.. Good find. 8)

edit:: Installation on debian was painless and it works flawlessly. apt-get install etc.

im running pclinuxos 2007 on an HP Vectra

1 GHZ Processor
512 MB of ram
onboard sound card
AND
Soundblaster Live!

(tried taking out the soundblaster, no luck)

i just cant get jackd to work. it tells me:

Code: [ Select ]
Couldn't Connect to Jackd

The sound server will continue, using the null output device
  1. Couldn't Connect to Jackd
  2. The sound server will continue, using the null output device

when i try starting jackd in the terminal i just get this:

Code: [ Select ]
