Which distro are you using?
What is the model number of your HP ethernet card?
Have you tried "netconfig" as root?

im using redhat 9

i used the commandless /proc/pci to get this:
bus 0, device 10, function 0
ethernet controller: accton technolgy corp smc2-1211tx (rev 16)
irq : 9

it is an old hp pavilion 8575c the model num i got off the driver disk is
EN1207D-TX 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter

so i am assuming accton is the acutal manufacture of the nic.

i do not see a listing for any accton products under the spot to configure the ethernet card.
i had tried netconfig from the root but it says command not found.

SMC 1211TX is basically a Realtek RTL8139.
and should be supported.

add to /etc/modules.conf:
alias eth0 rtl8139

and issue a:
cat /proc/pci
to insure there are no IRQ conflicts between your ethernet controller and another device.

If that doesn't work, install FreeBSD 4.9, lol:

Supported right out of the box. :D

I think the last option is the best. ;) Heh.

Cheers.
